Middle East Conflict Affects Nigerian Air Freight Rates

The ongoing conflict in the Middle East, involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, has triggered mixed reactions among Nigerian air freight operators. Reports indicate that some operators are experiencing higher outbound cargo rates, while others maintain unchanged charges.

The crisis, which began on February 28, has disrupted global aviation networks and affected cargo shipments differently depending on the route. Logistics agents have noted an increase in outbound cargo rates, even for destinations outside the Middle East.

For instance, the current charge for shipments to the United States is N16,000 per kilogram, while to the United Kingdom it is N7,900 per kilogram, and to Canada, it ranges from N18,000 to N19,000 per kilogram. Mayckl Azagba, a logistics professional, highlighted challenges faced by operators, including the withdrawal of shipments meant for the Middle East.

Faisal Jarmakani, Managing Director of Aramex Nigeria, noted that the crisis has had little impact on business so far, particularly for shipments to the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada.
