Five Migrants Found Dead in Libyan Desert Tragedy

In a tragic incident in Libya, five bodies of migrants were discovered in a desert area approximately 200 kilometers (124 miles) northwest of Jalu. Two bodies were located inside a broken-down vehicle, while three others were found four kilometers (2.5 miles) away, and another body was tracked down about 10 kilometers (six miles) from the vehicle by security personnel following footprints.

The vehicle's documents indicated that its owner was from Chad. In connection with this incident, 19 migrants were rescued, although the specific location of their rescue was not disclosed.

A brother of the vehicle owner, who was among the rescued, reported that another vehicle traveling with their group had taken fuel from the stranded vehicle and continued its journey. Libya has become a crucial transit route for migrants fleeing conflict and poverty, aiming to reach Europe through perilous desert crossings and the Mediterranean Sea.

This surge in migrant movements has been noted since the 2011 NATO-backed uprising that ousted long-time leader Muammar Gaddafi. Security personnel, along with members of the Fifth Battalion of the 129th Brigade, were involved in the recovery of the bodies.
