Nine Migrant Bodies Recovered After Boat Capsizes in Libya

Nine migrant bodies have been recovered from the shores of Tajoura, an eastern suburb of Libya’s capital, Tripoli, following the capsizing of a boat carrying approximately 19 people. The bodies were recovered over two days, as reported by the Tripoli branch of the Red Crescent, which indicated that search and recovery operations are still ongoing.

Muad Zurgani, a media officer with the Red Crescent, stated that more bodies could wash ashore due to the number of individuals believed to have been on the boat. The Red Crescent described the operation as requiring continuous effort and an urgent humanitarian response.

Images released by the organization showed volunteers and security personnel transporting bodies in white bags from the beach. In a separate incident, a rescue ship saved 50 migrants from a wooden boat in international waters off Libya, while seven others were found dead.

Libya remains a significant transit point for migrants fleeing conflict and poverty, attempting to reach Europe via the Mediterranean Sea.
