Nigerian Military Denies Arming Repentant Boko Haram Members

The Nigerian military, represented by Brigadier General Yusuf Ali, has dismissed claims that it arms repentant and active Boko Haram members, describing these allegations as false and misleading. The controversy arose following a viral video featuring Danish vlogger Jone Raw, which purportedly showed armed former insurgents at a rehabilitation center in Maiduguri.

Brigadier General Ali clarified that the operations under the Safe Corridor program are strictly non-kinetic, focusing on de-radicalization, rehabilitation, and reintegration of ex-combatants. He emphasized that participants in this program do not engage in military operations and that the claims circulating online misrepresent the program's objectives.

The military maintains that the Safe Corridor program operates independently of the Defense Headquarters and is compliant with global standards. Ali also noted that the location depicted in the viral video does not correspond to any official Safe Corridor facility, further distancing the military from the allegations and underscoring its commitment to transparency and national security.
