Military Faces Challenges from Rain in Northern Operations

Major General W.B Idris, Theatre Commander of the Joint Task Force North-west Operation Fansan Yamma, stated that rainfall and challenging terrain have significantly hampered military operations against terrorists in northern Nigeria. During an interactive session with defense correspondents in Gusau, Zamfara State, Idris reported that aggressive operations from January to April 2026 led to the recovery of approximately five weapons weekly and the neutralization of at least ten terrorists.

He noted that sustained military pressure has forced terrorists to retreat into remote areas, where they now target isolated farmers and communities. The rainy season has further complicated operations, making it difficult for heavy military vehicles to access remote locations.

Idris emphasized the reliance on air support, which is also affected by weather conditions. Despite these challenges, he assured that the military will continue to pursue terrorists regardless of terrain or weather, adapting strategies to maintain pressure on terrorist groups.
