Wolves Face FIFA Scrutiny Over Arokodare Training Ground Standoff

Wolverhampton Wanderers cancelled training after Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare refused to leave the pitch, triggering potential FIFA sanctions over player…

Wolverhampton Wanderers has become embroiled in a disciplinary crisis involving Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare after a confrontation at the club's Compton Park training facility. The dispute began when coaching staff ordered the 25-year-old to step away from first-team training, but Arokodare resisted the instruction, forcing the club to cancel Monday's session entirely.

The incident stems from a broader transfer disagreement between player and club. Wolves accepted a bid from Turkish outfit Trabzonspor for Arokodare, but the Nigerian international has expressed preference for a move to Serie A side Fiorentina.

Sources describe Arokodare sitting on the pitch as a form of protest against the Trabzonspor deal. In response to Arokodare's refusal to leave the pitch, club officials under new head coach Cesar Peixoto increased security measures at the training ground.

On Tuesday, additional security personnel were deployed to prevent the striker from accessing the facility. The club subsequently barred Arokodare from training with the first team on both Monday and Tuesday, with Arokodare also missing a friendly match during the period.

The situation has drawn attention to FIFA's newly implemented player protection regulations, which restrict clubs from isolating players or preventing them from training with their squads. Reports indicate that Wolves' actions in excluding Arokodare may contravene these fresh guidelines, potentially exposing the Championship club to sanctions from world football's governing body.

The exact timeline for any FIFA investigation remains unclear.
