Mimiko Advocates Devolution of Powers for Better Governance

On Tuesday, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, the former Governor of Ondo State, delivered a lecture titled “The Government and Politics Mountain” at the Pastors’ Seed Event of the 74th Annual Convention of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).

He advocated for the adoption of the “Jethro Principle” to tackle Nigeria's governance challenges, emphasizing the importance of devolution of powers and resources for effective leadership and accountability. Mimiko referenced the biblical figure Moses, who faced governance issues due to centralized authority, and argued that Nigeria should decentralize power to enable local communities to manage their unique challenges.

He acknowledged President Bola Tinubu's efforts to decentralize policing and resource management but stressed that a more significant structural change is necessary to dismantle systemic governance failures. Mimiko identified ethnocentrism, corruption, insecurity, poverty, and poor leadership as major political challenges and called for increased political participation from Christians and all Nigerians.
