Mimiko Advocates Power Devolution for Better Governance

Olusegun Mimiko, the former Governor of Ondo State and a former Minister of Housing and Urban Development, has called for the devolution of power as a solution to Nigeria's governance challenges. Speaking at the pastor’s seed event of the 74th Annual Convention of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, he referenced the biblical ‘Jethro Principle,’ advocating for the delegation of authority to improve efficiency and accountability.

Mimiko stated that centralization has led to issues like ethnocentrism, corruption, and insecurity, arguing that local leaders should be empowered to address community problems. He acknowledged the Tinubu presidency's efforts to decentralize policing and resource management but insisted that the Jethro model is essential for dismantling systemic governance failures.

Mimiko urged Nigerians, particularly Christians, to engage in politics, viewing it as a means to influence governance positively. He emphasized that government policies impact citizens' welfare and called for a combination of prayer and civic engagement for national renewal.
