Minister Enoh Urges Full Operation of Nigeria Sugar Institute

During an official visit to the Nigeria Sugar Institute (NSI) in Ilorin, Kwara State, Minister of State for Industry, John Owan Enoh, praised the Executive Secretary of the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC), Kamar Bakrin, for his team's efforts in reforming the institute. Enoh emphasized the necessity for NSI to become fully operational to drive capacity development and technical expertise within the sugar sector, aligning with Nigeria's goal of industrial self-sufficiency in sugar production.

He reaffirmed the federal government's commitment to supporting NSDC and NSI in achieving their mandates. The NSI, established in June 2019 and formally commissioned in January 2021, serves as a research and training backbone for Nigeria's sugar industry.

Bakrin reported that significant capacity-building programs have been implemented, with 60 staff members trained in various managerial and technical skills. The institute aims to become a national hub for knowledge transfer and technical support, enhancing the competitiveness and resilience of Nigeria's sugar industry.
