Sugar Industry Could Create One Million Jobs in Nigeria

Kamar Bakrin Fulli, the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Sugar Development Council (NSDC), announced that the sugar industry has the potential to create one million jobs and address Nigeria's security challenges by providing employment opportunities primarily in rural areas. During a strategic meeting at the Nigeria Customs Service headquarters in Abuja, he stated that the sector could generate 250,000 direct jobs and 750,000 indirect jobs across its value chain, particularly in 12 states.

Fulli highlighted the importance of converting the annual outflow of billions of dollars spent on sugar imports into domestic investments. He noted that successful implementation of the National Sugar Master Plan (NSMP II) could significantly enhance Nigeria's industrial base and reduce youth vulnerability to crime.

Bashir Adeniyi, the Comptroller General of Customs, expressed full support for the sugar sector's transformation agenda, emphasizing the need for effective enforcement of regulations and collaboration to ensure the success of the NSMP II.
