Adebayo Adelabu Denies Resignation for Oyo Governorship

Adebayo Adelabu, the Minister of Power, has publicly denied reports claiming he resigned from his position to pursue a governorship ambition in Oyo State. The rumors surfaced online on Tuesday, coinciding with a deadline set by President Bola Tinubu for political appointees seeking elective positions to step down.

Bolaji Tunji, Adelabu's special adviser on strategic communications, clarified that the minister is still in office and fully engaged in his duties, dismissing the resignation claims as false. The speculation arose amidst ongoing challenges in Nigeria's power sector, including inconsistent electricity supply and significant debts affecting power generation companies.

Adelabu had previously expressed interest in the Oyo State governorship during a meeting with APC stakeholders last June. Despite the denial of resignation, the political landscape remains tense as the 2027 elections approach, with other political figures also stepping down for similar ambitions.
