Nigeria and US Strengthen Partnership in Abuja Meeting

On July 13, 2026, Amb. Sola Enikanolaiye, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Nigeria, received Frank Garcia, the United States Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, in Abuja.

The meeting aimed to reaffirm the commitment to strengthen the long-standing strategic partnership between Nigeria and the United States. Enikanolaiye emphasized Nigeria's dedication to enhancing collaboration in areas such as trade, investment, maritime security, counter-terrorism, and intelligence sharing.

He highlighted the significant progress made through the Nigeria-United States Joint Work Group and noted ongoing preparations for the next bilateral engagement scheduled for August 2026 in Washington D.C. Enikanolaiye also addressed Nigeria's commitment to addressing security challenges and improving law enforcement regarding terrorism-related offenses.

Garcia commended the strength of the Nigeria-United States relationship, particularly in trade, investment, health technology, and maritime security, and acknowledged Nigeria's growing role in promoting regional stability.
