Nigeria and Senegal Strengthen Bilateral Relations at ECOWAS

On July 17, 2026, Sola Enikanolaiye, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Nigeria, met with Cheikh Niang, the Foreign Minister of Senegal, during the ECOWAS mid-year summit held in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Enikanolaiye commended the cordial bilateral relations between Nigeria and Senegal and expressed the intent to enhance and deepen the brotherly ties between the two countries.

He emphasized the importance of closer communication and reducing bureaucratic obstacles, which would foster collaboration on bilateral and multilateral issues. Enikanolaiye stated the need to resuscitate the joint commission between Nigeria and Senegal to create a platform for exploring further opportunities for mutual benefit.

He also underscored the necessity to improve trade and commerce, translating excellent political relations into economic benefits for the people. Cheikh Niang congratulated Enikanolaiye on his appointment and appreciated the gesture to initiate closer collaboration.
