Nigeria Reaffirms Support for DRC in Diplomatic Meeting

On July 13, 2026, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, received the special envoy of President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo in Abuja. During the meeting, Enikanolaiye reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with the DRC and expressed support for peace and stability in the region.

The special envoy, Mr. Pascalin Gerengbo Yakivu, delivered a message from President Tshisekedi, inviting Nigeria to participate in a United Nations Security Council high-level open debate on peace, security, and sustainable development scheduled for July 22, 2026, in New York. Enikanolaiye emphasized the importance of Nigeria's participation, given its leadership role in Africa.

The Minister also conveyed sympathy regarding the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the DRC and commended the Congolese government's measures to contain it. The discussion included bilateral issues and a commitment to deepen relations and promote regional peace and security.
