Minister Salako Encourages Skills Over Degrees at Convocation

On October 27, during Chrisland University’s 8th convocation ceremony in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Dr Iziaq Salako, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, urged graduates to prioritize skills acquisition, global competitiveness, and integrity over reliance on academic certificates. Salako, serving as the guest lecturer, emphasized that obtaining a degree is merely the beginning of their journey and that academic qualifications alone do not guarantee success in a competitive world.
He advised graduates to continually enhance their skills, build global networks, and focus on problem-solving rather than just seeking employment. Salako also encouraged them to maintain connections with Nigeria and their alma mater.
Prof. Oyedunni Arulogun, the Vice-Chancellor of Chrisland University, announced that 53 students graduated with First Class honours among 281 graduates from regular undergraduate programmes, with a total of 324 first-degree graduates including those from the Centre for Distance Learning and Executive Programmes.
