Nigeria to Boost Dairy Sector with Gender Policies

The Federal Government of Nigeria, represented by Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, the Minister of Livestock Development, announced plans to enhance the dairy sector through gender-responsive policies aimed at expanding opportunities for women and youth. This initiative is part of the preparations for World Milk Day, which will be celebrated on June 1, 2026.

During a press briefing following a road walk in Abuja on May 30, 2026, Maiha emphasized the commitment to advancing gender-responsive dairy policies. The framework for these policies will be officially unveiled on June 1, 2026, providing a clear roadmap for achieving Nigeria's dairy policy objectives.

The government aims to invest in feed, fodder development, animal health services, and dairy infrastructure. Additionally, there are plans to empower 37,000 women and youth across the livestock value chain, particularly in dairy production and processing.

The initiative is designed to create economic opportunities and strengthen household nutrition, contributing to food security and agricultural growth in Nigeria.
