Ministry of Defence Addresses Allowance Payments for Interns

The Ministry of Defence issued a clarification regarding the allowance payments to house officers and interns in Armed Forces Reference Hospitals, responding to claims of non-payment. The ministry stated that payments for outstanding allowances would commence following specific dates: Batch B allowances for January and February 2026 are scheduled for April 30, 2026, while Batch C allowances for December 2025 and January 2026 will be addressed on July 8, 2026.

The ministry acknowledged that a total of 703 house officers and interns engaged in the 2025-2026 program had been affected, with Batch B payments made in April 2026 and Batch C comprising 90 house officers and interns paid for December 2025 and January 2026. The ministry attributed delays to a lack of budgetary allocation and has formally alerted the budget office regarding the funding shortfall.

Richard Pheelangwah, the Permanent Secretary, emphasized the ministry's commitment to resolving these funding challenges and urged the public to disregard misleading reports.
