Modric Urges Fan Support for Croatia Against Spain
Croatia captain Luka Modric expressed his hope that fans would support the team despite their heavy 7-0 defeat to England, managed by Thomas Tuchel, prior to their Nations League match against Spain on Tuesday. Modric, who plays for AC Milan, stated he felt "ashamed" of the team's performance and emphasized the need for a positive reaction from fans.
Croatia will host Spain in Split, aiming to recover from the loss while Spain, the reigning world champions, seeks to qualify for the quarter-finals. Modric noted that the manner of the loss was more concerning than the loss itself.
Croatia played against England under a one-match punishment for fan racism, with only local children allowed in the crowd. Modric acknowledged Spain as the best team in the world and stressed the need for Croatia to be aggressive and limit Spain's opportunities.
Spain coach Luis de la Fuente dismissed the England defeat as an "accident" and highlighted the potential motivation it could provide for Croatia.
