NIMASA Hosts Workshop for Nigeria's Maritime Decarbon Plan

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) organized a stakeholder workshop aimed at developing a National Maritime Decarbon Action Plan for Nigeria. Dr.

Dayo Mobereola, Director General of NIMASA, highlighted the workshop as a critical step in implementing the federal government's blue economy and climate objectives. The workshop's focus is on the IMO GreenVoyage2050 project, which aims to provide technical cooperation and support for countries to implement the International Maritime Organization's greenhouse gas strategies.

Engr. Fatai Taiy Adeyemi, NIMASA's Executive Director of Operations, underscored the significance of the project in ensuring that Nigeria's maritime industry remains competitive and environmentally sustainable.

Astrid Dispert, the technical manager of the IMO GreenVoyage2050 project, emphasized the initiative's goal to advance a coherent global regulatory framework for maritime decarbonization. The action plan will reflect Nigeria's realities and leverage existing capacities to address identified gaps while promoting sustainable shipping practices and encouraging investment in clean technologies.
