Court Sets Date for Mohbad Death Investigation Hearing

The Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Jame Omotosho, has set a hearing date for May 28 to address a suit aimed at compelling the Nigeria Police Force to reopen the investigation into the death of singer Mohbad, who died in September 2023. The suit was filed by the Break Silence Foundation, a non-governmental organization, which seeks a mandamus order to direct the police to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation.

The application requests that individuals last seen with the deceased, including his wife Omowumi Cynthia Aloba and father Joseph Aloba, be invited for questioning. The court has ordered that the Inspector General of Police and the Lagos State Command ensure their appearance.

The application was filed following a previous court order on April 15, which mandated the police to conduct a fresh investigation into the circumstances of Mohbad's death, which has sparked widespread outrage and calls for justice from fans.
