Jimoh Yisawu's Money Laundering Trial Adjourned to 2027

The Federal High Court in Abuja has postponed the trial of Jimoh Yisawu, the former Managing Director of Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company Limited, to January 18, 2027. Yisawu is facing an eight-count charge of alleged money laundering filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The trial was initially set to begin on October 30, 2026, but could not proceed due to pre-election matters and ongoing renovations affecting courtroom arrangements. The EFCC alleges that Yisawu laundered public funds during his tenure at the Warri refinery and while serving with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
He was arraigned on July 20, 2026, before Justice Inyang Ekwo, pleading not guilty to the charges. Following his plea, the EFCC's counsel, Ekele Iheanacho, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), requested a trial date.
Yisawu's defense counsel, Wale Balogun, SAN, sought to move a bail application, which was granted by Justice Ekwo, who set bail at N500 million with specific conditions.
