Moniepoint Hosts Fintech Engineering Mixer in Nigeria

Moniepoint organized an inaugural off-the-record engineering mixer for senior engineering practitioners in Nigeria’s fintech sector, aimed at discussing the technical challenges of building and operating financial infrastructure at scale. The event included professionals from fintech companies such as Flutterwave, Cowrywise, and Nomba.

Key topics of discussion included “Building for Scale: The Trade-offs of Distributed Systems in Fintech” and “Building Distributed Systems for POS at Scale.” Participants addressed challenges like system failures, network dependencies, and the need for resilient systems. Ayomide Kolawole, Engineering Manager for Card Payments at Moniepoint, emphasized the importance of understanding transaction failure points and ensuring that system failures do not negatively impact customers.

Moniepoint’s card payment infrastructure processes over 20 million transactions daily and includes a monitoring system that tracks transaction success rates and response times in real time, allowing for automatic adjustments to prevent delays.
