Nigeria's Petrol Prices Surge to ₦1,300 per Litre

Petrol prices in Nigeria have reached ₦1,300 per litre, prompting fears of increased transport and product costs amid rising inflation. This price hike follows adjustments made by Dangote Refinery, which raised its price to ₦1,175 per litre.

Economists and private sector groups have warned that the surge in fuel prices will drive up transport, logistics, and food costs nationwide. In a related political development, the Rivers State House of Assembly defended its decision to reject four commission nominees submitted by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The Assembly's Speaker, Martin Amaewhul, cited poor performance during the screening exercise as the reason for the rejection. The Assembly had screened nine candidates but ultimately confirmed five nominees for further action by the governor.

This situation highlights ongoing tensions in the state's political landscape as economic pressures mount.
