Morocco Welcomes CAF Ruling on AFCON Final Outcome

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (RMFF) expressed its approval of a landmark decision made by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) appeal board, which overturned the initial outcome of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final. The appeal board ruled that Senegal had breached tournament regulations during the match, which they originally won 1-0 after extra time against Morocco.

The board determined that a Senegalese player had left the pitch to protest a controversial penalty decision, thus contravening competition rules. The RMFF had previously challenged the outcome but faced an unsuccessful appeal to CAF's disciplinary board.

The RMFF stated that the ruling reinforces adherence to regulations and promotes stability in continental competitions. They expressed confidence in upcoming tournaments, including the FIFA Women's World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which is now scheduled for July 25 to August 16, after being postponed from its original dates of March 17 to April 3 due to unforeseen circumstances.
