Morrison Backs Awoniyi to Shine at Coventry City

Clinton Morrison, a former striker for Coventry City, expressed confidence in Taiwo Awoniyi's potential to thrive at Coventry following his £9 million transfer from Nottingham Forest. Awoniyi, who has had a challenging time at Forest due to injuries, is now positioned to lead Frank Lampard's attack as Coventry returns to the Premier League after a 25-year absence.

Morrison noted that Awoniyi appears revitalized and hungry, showcasing his abilities in four games with one goal and one assist. Awoniyi's previous stint at Forest saw him score 10 league goals in his debut season, but injuries hampered his progress, including a serious groin injury in May 2025.

His move to Coventry also reignites hopes for a return to the Nigeria national team, where he has earned 10 caps but last played in 2023. Morrison acknowledged the challenge of competing with Victor Osimhen for a spot but emphasized that regular play at Coventry could enhance Awoniyi's chances.
