Awoniyi Shines with Goal and Assist on Coventry Debut

Taiwo Awoniyi made an impressive full debut for Coventry City in the Carabao Cup, contributing to a 4-2 victory against Plymouth Argyle. The Super Eagles striker, who joined Coventry from Nottingham Forest last week, opened the scoring in the third minute with a right-footed shot into the bottom-right corner.

Shortly after, he assisted Jack Rudoni, who doubled the lead with a left-footed shot. Coventry secured their place in the next round with additional goals from Ephron Mason-Clark and Victor Torpe.

Awoniyi was substituted 20 minutes before the end, with Sidiki Cherif taking his place. Previously, Awoniyi had made his debut as a substitute in a 3-0 loss to Arsenal.

He aims to build on this performance as Coventry City strives to maintain their Premier League status for the 2026/2027 campaign. In a separate match, Josh Ajala also marked his full debut for West Ham United with two goals in a 4-1 win over Southampton.
