Lagos Traffic Authority Responds to Fatal Truck Crash
A tragic accident in Lagos resulted in the deaths of a mother and child when two trucks collided, causing them to be trapped beneath the overturned vehicles and their cargo. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), through its Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq, reported the incident.
LASTMA's rescue personnel cordoned off the road and diverted traffic to prevent further accidents. They utilized a crane and a high-capacity tow vehicle to remove the overturned trucks.
The Nigeria Police Force provided security during the recovery operation, and the victims' remains were taken to the Police Mortuary in Yaba. LASTMA's General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the victims' family and called for a thorough investigation to determine the causes of the crash, including potential mechanical defects, overloading, or driver negligence.
He urged truck operators to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and comply with safety regulations.
