Container Truck Crash Disrupts Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Traffic

On September 16, a 40-foot container-laden truck crashed into several vehicles and overturned on the Kara Bridge of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at approximately 8 a.m. This incident resulted in four injuries, with victims evacuated to nearby hospitals.

The crash obstructed the entire carriageway, worsening traffic congestion already affected by ongoing repairs of damaged expansion joints. By 3:30 p.m., traffic had come to a standstill, impacting commuters and business activities significantly, with many passengers stranded at various bus stops.

An eyewitness expressed frustration over the situation, which highlighted the vulnerability of the expressway to disruptions. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) attributed the crash to alleged brake failure, stating that the truck rammed into demarcation blocks and other vehicles.

Emergency responders, including personnel from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and police, were deployed to manage the situation and facilitate vehicle evacuation.
