MRA Slams INEC Over N1.5bn Charge for Voter Register, Sparking Transparency Concerns

The Media Rights Agenda (MRA) has condemned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for requesting N1.5 billion to provide copies of the national voter register and polling unit list in Nigeria. MRA's Executive Director, Edetaen Ojo, criticized this move as a blatant attempt to hinder public scrutiny and compromise transparency.

The demand for such a high fee is seen as excessive and a violation of the spirit of the Freedom of Information Act. Ojo also referenced African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights guidelines on access to electoral information.
