MURIC Urges Removal of INEC Chairman Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has demanded the immediate removal of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Josiah Amupitan, ahead of the 2027 elections.

MURIC, through its Kano State chapter chairman, Malam Hassan Sani Indabawa, alleges that Amupitan's past actions, including a hate-filled address in 2020, justify his removal, resignation, and prosecution. The group claims that Amupitan's alleged bias and past statements undermine the integrity of the forthcoming elections.

MURIC highlights a legal brief authored by Amupitan in 2020, describing attacks by Boko Haram and Fulani herdsmen as part of an anti-Christian campaign, which they view as crimes against humanity and genocide. The group insists on Amupitan's immediate removal to prevent any perceived partisanship that could affect the credibility of the 2027 general elections.
