MUSLIM RIGHTS GROUP DEMANDS REMOVAL OF INEC CHAIRMAN

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has escalated its campaign against the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, demanding his immediate removal. In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, the group accused Amupitan of actions that undermine the confidence of Nigerian Muslim voters.

This demand follows a series of complaints that have reportedly gone unaddressed by the federal government. The organization referenced an 80-page legal brief alleging Christian genocide, which they claim contributes to international accusations against Nigeria regarding its religious situation.

Despite previous calls for Amupitan's dismissal, the group asserts that their concerns have not been taken seriously. They have now decided to approach the National Assembly, emphasizing the moral duty of lawmakers to listen to the grievances of Nigerian Muslims.

The ongoing controversy is seen as critical to the credibility of future elections in Nigeria, particularly the 2027 general elections.
