Angélique Kidjo to Receive Hollywood Walk of Fame Star

Angélique Kidjo, a five-time Grammy Award winner, is set to make history as the first Black African artiste to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on August 18, 2023. The ceremony will take place at 7011 Hollywood Boulevard, across from the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, and will be presented in the Recording category.

Notable attendees include actor Willem Dafoe and Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy and MusiCares. Kidjo's career, which spans over four decades, includes nearly 20 albums and significant global cultural influence, blending West African musical traditions with jazz, funk, and R&B.

Born in 1960 in Dahomey (now the Republic of Benin), she began her recording career in 1981 and moved to Paris in 1983 due to civil unrest. Kidjo has won five Grammy Awards and received the Polar Music Prize in 2023.

Her upcoming album, set for release on April 24, 2026, features collaborations with artists like Davido and Pharrell Williams, further showcasing her ability to bridge cultures and generations.
