Lauryn Hill Receives Living Legend Icon Award at BET 2026

At the BET Awards 2026, Lauryn Hill was named the first-ever recipient of the Living Legend Icon Award, a recognition celebrating her enduring impact on music and culture. Orlando, the Executive Vice President of Special Music Programs at BET, described Hill as a definitive live legend, highlighting her influence across generations.

During the ceremony, Hill made a surprise performance featuring a star-studded tribute medley with artists including SZA, Doechii, Lizzo, Doja Cat, Common, and Queen Latifah. In her heartfelt acceptance speech, Hill reflected on her journey as an artist, expressing gratitude for her children and the love she aims to share through music.

She emphasized the importance of representing dignity and the struggles faced by many, stating that while not everyone understands the fight, it is essential to share love through music. Hill's career began as an actress in the 1993 film "Sister Act," and she later gained fame with her landmark 1998 debut album, which won five Grammy Awards and made history as the first hip-hop project to win Album of the Year.
