My son will never play for Nigeria – Taribo West

Taribo West emotionally spoke at the funeral of late goalkeeper Peter Rufai, expressing that his son will never play for Nigeria. Rufai, affectionately known as Dodo Mayana, was a key player in Nigeria's 1994 Africa Cup of Nations triumph and World Cup debut that year.

West accused the Lagos State Government and Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) of abandoning Rufai's family in their time of need. He recalled the raw emotions he felt at Rufai's passing, stating that it was disheartening to see how the family was treated.

West emphasized that he would never advise his son to represent the country, given the lack of support shown to Rufai's family. He criticized the NFF and Lagos State Football Association for their treatment of the late goalkeeper's family, urging them to show more compassion and respect.
