Imo Contractors Seek Urgent Help for N15.9bn Debt

Contractors in Imo State are urgently requesting intervention from the National Assembly and Governor Hope Uzodimma concerning N15.9 billion in unpaid contracts. These contracts, awarded between 2011 and 2019 during former Governor Rochas Okorocha's administration, have left contractors in dire financial straits, with many facing hardships for over ten years without payment.

Dr. Sylvest Anyikwa, representing the contractors, stated that despite exhausting all legal avenues, they have received no compensation.

Pastor Great Nwoke emphasized that the contractors deserve their wages for work done in good faith. The situation has worsened, with many contractors reportedly suffering from serious health issues due to financial stress.

The Imo State House of Assembly's committee, chaired by Hon. Kwamoti Britru, has yet to release a report on the matter, leaving contractors without recourse.

Lawyer Sola Egbeyinka highlighted that some contractors are hospitalized due to lack of funds for treatment, urging the state government to resolve the issue urgently.
