Senate Summons NNPCL Executives Over N210 Trillion Audit

The Nigerian Senate has requested the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, and other executives to appear before a committee to address the unaccounted N210 trillion highlighted in the company's audit report covering the years 2017 to 2023. The motion was moved by Senator Osita Izunaso from Imo West and seconded by Senator Adam Oshiomhole from Edo North.

The committee, chaired by Senator Aliyu Wadada from Nasarawa West, expressed dissatisfaction with the explanations provided by NNPCL regarding 19 queries related to the unaccounted funds. The committee emphasized the importance of accountability and has set a compliance deadline for NNPCL to appear before them by April 29, 2026.

Senator Abdul Ningi from Bauchi Central has called for the invocation of the National Assembly's powers to compel NNPCL management to appear, citing a growing reluctance among individuals to honor invitations from the Assembly.
