Court Urges Settlement in N98.5bn Patent Dispute

The Federal High Court in Lagos, presided over by Justice Deind Dipeolu, has urged parties involved in a N98.5 billion patent infringement lawsuit to seek an amicable settlement. The suit, initiated by Enterprise Logistics Special Limited, alleges that Avanag Nigeria Limited, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System PLC (NIBSS) infringed on its cash management technology patent and breached a non-disclosure agreement.

Samuel Kolajo, Managing Director of Enterprise Logistics, claims damages due to the refusal to deploy their cash management solution within Nigeria's national payment infrastructure. Tayo Oyetibo, SAN, represented the plaintiff, while Olaoluwa Al-Daniel represented NIBSS, with CBN not having legal representation.

The court noted the absence of legal representation for Avanag Nigeria Limited and scheduled the next hearing for October 15-16, 2026. The plaintiff seeks to protect its intellectual property rights and claims significant investments in developing the technology since 2011.
