PRNigeria's Yushau Shuaib Loses N1bn Suit Against NIPSS

Yushau Shuaib, the Chief Executive Officer of PRNigeria, filed a N1 billion lawsuit against the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) after the institute withdrew him from a senior executive course. The Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Binta Nyako, dismissed the suit, stating that NIPSS acted within its disciplinary powers.

The judgment indicated that Shuaib breached the institute's confidentiality rules and was bound by an oath of secrecy. Shuaib was ordered to issue an apology on behalf of PRNigeria.

Following the ruling, Shuaib expressed dissatisfaction and announced plans to appeal, arguing that the court failed to distinguish between personal conduct and editorial independence at PRNigeria. He contended that NIPSS unlawfully accessed his private email communications, infringing on his constitutional rights.

The appeal is set to be filed in July 2025, with Shuaib seeking N1 billion in damages and reinstatement to his previous position.
