NAC Approves Framework for Nigeria's Modern Addressing System

The National Addressing Council (NAC) ratified a preliminary framework for Nigeria's digitized modern addressing system during a meeting on Monday in Abuja, chaired by Vice President Kashim Shetima. The Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation will act as the secretariat to ensure greater efficiency and coordination among agencies.

Shetima emphasized the importance of a robust addressing system that can locate every community and support enterprises without barriers. He stated that the addressing system must effectively serve both rural and urban areas, linking citizens to the state and facilitating commerce and security.

The Vice President highlighted the need for the digital addressing framework to connect with other public systems, enhancing financial inclusion and emergency response. He outlined the roles of various organizations, including NIMC for individual verification, CAC for business address verification, and NIPOST for postcode administration.

The implementation will involve collaboration with states and local governments through the NGF and ALGON.
