Tinubu Launches 10,000 Tractors Initiative for Nigeria

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced the National Agricultural Development Fund's (NADF) initiative to deploy 10,000 tractors across Nigeria, which aims to stimulate enterprise development, create employment opportunities, and significantly increase food production. This initiative is part of efforts to transform the country's agricultural sector and is aligned with the administration's economic recovery agenda.

The NADF's plan includes a recent procurement contract valued at approximately $70 million with Agcom International Trade Limited for 2,000 John Deere tractors, marking the first phase of a broader presidential mandate. During the contract signing ceremony, NADF Executive Secretary Moham Abu Ibrahim described the program as a strategic intervention to modernize agriculture and improve farm output.

The project will extend beyond tractor supply to include complementary equipment and local assembly operations, enhancing technical skills and creating job opportunities for Nigerian youth. The initiative is expected to reduce dependence on manual farming, expand cultivated land, and strengthen agriculture's contribution to the national economy.
