NAFDAC Destroys N939 Million in Fake Drugs in Anambra

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) conducted a destruction exercise of counterfeit pharmaceutical products valued at approximately N939,077,209 in Anambra State on a Friday. This operation was supervised by Prof.

Christianah Adeyey, the Director General of NAFDAC, and aimed to eliminate unsafe, substandard, and falsified products from the market, which pose significant threats to public health. The products destroyed included expired and unregistered medicines, food, medical equipment, and cosmetic products.

The operation was part of NAFDAC's routine surveillance and enforcement efforts, which involved intelligence-led interventions across the South-east zone. Stakeholders, particularly members of the National Association of Patent Proprietary Medicine Dealers from Anambra and Enugu States, voluntarily handed over some of the unwholesome products.

Prof. Adeyey emphasized the agency's commitment to ensuring consumer safety and urged the public to purchase products from credible sources with NAFDAC registration numbers.
