NAFDAC Destroys N1.5tn Fake Products in Major Raids

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) reported the destruction of regulated products valued at over N1.5 trillion during a coordinated operation in Lagos and the South-East between February and March 2025. This operation was part of a broader initiative that has seen NAFDAC destroy or seize more than N1.54 trillion worth of fake and substandard goods nationwide since 2023.

Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, the Director-General of NAFDAC, addressed the public's concerns regarding counterfeit products, labeling counterfeiters as "merchants of death" and asserting a commitment to zero tolerance. The agency conducted simultaneous raids at Idumota and Onitsha markets and the Ariaria International Market in Aba, leading to the seizure and destruction of over 137 truckloads of counterfeit products.

Additionally, NAFDAC has undertaken various destruction exercises targeting fake medicines, with significant operations in Ibadan and Abuja, totaling N27.8 billion in drug-related destructions alone.
