NAFDAC's Adeyeye Calls for Global Support in Vaccine Production

At the 8th Nigeria Pharma Manufacturers’ Expo in Lagos, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, the Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), sought support from international partners to establish vaccine manufacturing facilities in Nigeria. She stated that this initiative would help NAFDAC achieve World Health Organisation (WHO) Maturity Level 4 for vaccine lot release.

Adeyeye acknowledged the support of international partners in reaching Maturity Level 3 and urged them to assist in fill-and-finish modular vaccine manufacturing. She noted that Nigeria has the potential for local vaccine production, which is crucial for progress.

Adeyeye praised President Bola Tinubu for the Executive Order 2024, which she described as transformative for local manufacturers. She also highlighted NAFDAC's achievements, including a Good Manufacturing Practice audit funded by USAID, which led to improved quality and a significant decrease in product imports.

Additionally, NAFDAC became a member of the International Medical Device Forum in 2023 and had its Yaba laboratory pre-qualified by WHO in September 2023.
