Nigeria Aims for 70% Local Drug Production by 2026

Nigeria is targeting 70% local production of medicines by enhancing domestic pharmaceutical manufacturing. The 8th Nigeria Pharma Manufacturers Expo is scheduled for September 28 and 29, 2026, at Harbour Point, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The event will be led by the Coordinating Minister of Health, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, and the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole. Organized by the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Group of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (PMG-MAN) in partnership with GPE Expo Pvt.

Ltd., the expo will focus on strategies to position Nigeria as a major pharmaceutical production hub in Africa. Expected attendees include dignitaries such as Senator John Owan Enoh, Dr Iziaq Adekunle Salako, and Professor Moji Christianah Adeyeye.

The expo aims to attract foreign direct investment, promote local sourcing of raw materials, and strengthen Nigerian pharmaceutical manufacturers' capacity. Over 200 companies are expected to exhibit, with nearly 10,000 healthcare professionals projected to attend.

This initiative aligns with the Presidential Initiative for Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain (PVAC).
