NAICOM Aims to Enhance Takaful Insurance in Nigeria

The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), under the leadership of Commissioner Mr. Olusegun Ayo Omosehin, is committed to unlocking the potential of Takaful insurance in Nigeria. This commitment was expressed during a meeting with a delegation from the Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB), led by Dr. Hamim Syahrum Ahmad Mokhtar, after a five-day Diagnostic Assessment Mission on Nigeria’s Takaful sector.

Omosehin encouraged the delegation to provide practical, data-driven recommendations to aid regulatory reforms and market development. He emphasized that Takaful operates as an alternative insurance model, adhering to Shariah governance principles, and has the capacity to serve a diverse consumer base.

The mission's preliminary findings highlighted measures to strengthen the legal and regulatory framework for Takaful in Nigeria. NAICOM views its collaboration with IFSB as a significant step towards developing a robust Takaful ecosystem, aiming for greater financial stability and consumer confidence.

A comprehensive report on the mission's findings will be released after stakeholder feedback is incorporated.
