Super Eagles Miss Out on 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualification

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will not participate in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as confirmed by the final list of qualifying teams released by FIFA on Wednesday. The Democratic Republic of Congo secured a place in the intercontinental playoff tournament, while Nigeria's hopes were dashed due to allegations against the Congolese Football Federation regarding the use of ineligible players.

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) argued that certain players did not meet FIFA's eligibility requirements during the decisive match that ended in a 1-1 draw, which Nigeria lost in penalties. FIFA has not publicly addressed the NFF's claims or overturned the match result.

Consequently, Nigeria's absence marks a significant setback as the 2026 World Cup expands to 48 teams, hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
