Nasarawa State Initiates Gratuity Payments for Retirees

Nasarawa State has commenced quarterly gratuity payments to over 1,300 retirees, as disclosed by the Director of Human Resources at the Nasarawa State Pension Bureau, Abdullahi Ibrahim. The first quarterly payment for 2026 amounts to N300 million and covers beneficiaries from both state and local government services.

This initiative, introduced by the administration of Governor Abdullahi Sule, aims to address a backlog of gratuities that have been inherited by the current government. Ibrahim emphasized that the selection of beneficiaries was conducted transparently by a disbursement committee, which includes various stakeholders such as the Deputy Governor and representatives from the Nigeria Union of Pensioners.

He urged retirees to remain patient as the bureau, led by Director General Alhaji Suleiman Nagogo, is committed to ensuring that all outstanding entitlements are paid. The state government has also released N5 billion in 2025 to clear the backlog of gratuities from 1999 to 2012.
