NLC Applauds FG's 100% Gratuity Scheme for Retirees

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has expressed its approval of the Federal Government's recent decision to implement a 100% gratuity scheme for retiring federal civil servants. NLC President Ajaero commended this initiative during an interview on Tuesday, emphasizing that the new exit benefit scheme will allow retiring workers to receive gratuity equivalent to 100% of their total annual emoluments.

This gratuity will be paid in addition to the existing pension scheme and is set to take effect on January 1, 2026. Ajaero described the approval as a positive step in providing support to workers at the end of their service.

He noted that the gratuity serves as immediate financial assistance, acknowledging the dedication and loyalty of civil servants throughout their careers. Furthermore, Ajaero highlighted that gratuities had previously been discontinued without legal abolishment and urged the government to ensure that workers who were denied these benefits in the past receive what they are entitled to.

He also called for the private sector to adopt similar gratuity arrangements for their workers.
