Governor Abdullahi Sule Launches Akwanga-Jos Bypass Project

On September 27, 2026, Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule inaugurated the newly completed 5.2-kilometre Akwanga-Jos bypass in the Akwanga Local Government Area. This bypass is intended to alleviate traffic congestion in Akwanga town and stimulate economic activities by providing an alternative route for vehicles traveling to Jos.

The governor noted that the bypass has reduced travel time by over 5km and has decreased accidents in the area. He praised the contractor for completing the project on schedule and to specifications, stating it was built to federal highway standards to accommodate heavy-duty vehicles.

Additionally, the governor promised to install solar street lights for nighttime safety. The inauguration coincides with activities marking the 30th anniversary of Nasarawa State's creation on October 1, 2026.

Local government chairmen expressed gratitude for the autonomy granted to their offices and committed to executing more community-focused projects. The Deputy Governor, Dr Emmanuel Akabe, outlined the anniversary celebrations, which include prayers, project inaugurations, and a football match.
