Sasakawa Africa Urges Nasarawa Farmers to Embrace Technology

The Sasakawa Africa Association (SAA) has called on farmers in Nasarawa State to embrace new agricultural technologies for maize and soybean production to improve market access and productivity. Dr Godwin Atser, the Nigeria Country Director of SAA, represented by Nathaniel Otene, the Technical Coordinator for Climate Resilient and Agricultural Food Systems, made this statement during an interview on Thursday in Obi Local Government Area.

He emphasized the necessity for crop varieties that can withstand extreme weather conditions due to climate change. SAA's initiatives focus on regenerative agriculture, market-oriented practices, nutrition-sensitive agriculture, and capacity building.

The organization aims to enhance farmer productivity, which directly correlates with increased income and improved livelihoods. They are promoting SAMMAZ 52, a biofortified maize variety, and Quality Protein Maize (SAMMAZ 27) to address nutritional deficiencies.

Farmer Audu Sunday Anzaku noted that the training received has enabled them to adopt modern farming techniques that meet international standards.
